The long-running rumor of Fry’s coming to Cooley Station is coming to fruition, as developer Evergreen Devco announced Sept. 25 it is breaking ground on a shopping center to be anchored by the grocery store.
The planned shopping center on the southeast corner of Recker and Williams Field roads will take up 172,000 square feet, according to the company release. It also will house AutoZone, Taco Bell and Burger King, with more tenants still to come.
“I think it’s incredibly important, especially for all of those neighborhoods that need amenities in walking distance,” Mayor Jenn Daniels said. “I think the goal is to really have community centers, if you will, that create added interaction, connection and amenities for our neighbors. This will certainly aid in that effort.”
Evergreen purchased the property for the shopping center Sept. 19 and anticipates completion of the project the third quarter of 2020.
